St. Louis County Parks and Recreation
St. Louis County
News, Updates, & Warnings:
No hunting allowed here so it’s a good place to ride during hunting seasons.
From St. Louis , take I-270 south to Telegraph Road , turn south. Drive 1.9 miles on Telegraph until you get to Cliff Cave Road, turn east. Follow Cliff Cave Road into the park, staying to the right when you see the road fork to both the left and right. Bluff Road is to the left and Cliff Cave Road is to the right. The first parking lot is right before the park entrance, on the left. It is only open weekends and holidays, April through November. The park is open from 8:00 am to ½ hour past sunset. If this lot is closed, to get to the 2nd lot go down the hill into the park, and around the sharp curve to the left at the bottom. The 2nd parking lot will be on the right hand side and is paved and striped for cars. A sign indicates this is a horse trailer parking lot as well as the one at the top of the hill before the park.
Miles of Trails:
This trail system gets a lot of use so the trails are well defined and easy to follow. The Spring Valley Trail has a lot of exposed roots and tree stubs to avoid at the beginning of the trail as well as occasional downfall to negotiate. The River Bluff Trail has a stunning overlook onto the Mississippi River , but it’s a long drop. You can stay well back from the edge and get a good look, however. There is also lots of rock on this trail, including some areas that are like stair steps. Other hazards to be aware of include riding along a paved road to cross over from the River Bluff Loop to the Spring Valley Loop and an active train track that is just past the second parking lot, so the train whistle and other train sounds can be quite loud
Other Trail Users:
Hikers and mountain bikers.
